L'Annam

L'Annam is a bakery and coffee shop on the main street through Artarmon, directly opposite the train station, which makes it an easy stop if you're commuting or passing through. There's free street parking nearby, and the entrance and car park are wheelchair accessible.

The baguettes are what people talk about most. They're baked in-house, crusty and fresh, and locals will tell you the pork rolls are among the better ones in Sydney. The ham, cheese and tomato rolls get a mention too, and so does the sourdough. We've also heard the bakery is known for its pies. If you're after a banh mi, know that it's a French-style baguette take on the classic, with mayo rather than the traditional butter, so it suits some tastes more than others.

Beyond the bread, there's a small spread of pastries, croissants, lamingtons and a couple of gluten-free options, plus breakfast and dessert items. Coffee is a Campos blend, and opinion on it is a little split. Some regulars rate it strong and satisfying, while others find it hit or miss. The hot chocolate gets good words, and one local suggested the green tea service could use some attention.

Staff are often described as friendly, smiling and quick, and one visitor was won over by a team member who talked them through the flavours. Service isn't always smooth, though, and we've heard of the odd order mix-up at the counter, so it's worth double-checking your milk or coffee order if you have a preference. A few people also find prices on the higher side for coffee and a snack.

You can dine in or take away, and they accept cards and tap-and-pay. They're open early every day of the week and into the afternoon, and one regular mentioned they've opened on Christmas Day. Check the hours before heading in for a particular occasion.
