About Dirranbandi Bakery

Dirranbandi Bakery is the kind of country bakery that makes a stop in this little Queensland town feel worthwhile, whether you're passing through or live nearby. Travellers tend to mention it, and it's easy to see why: the pies are big, generously filled and a regular talking point. One customer reckoned the pepper steak pie was among the best they'd had, and the curried chicken pie made an impression too. Sausage rolls are another favourite, and vanilla slice, custard tart, apple strudel and baklava all get a mention. One visitor pointed to pastries and cakes with a Russian influence that you don't often come across in a country town, and the family running the place is part of its character.

Coffee is on the menu, and people speak well of it, including the decaf and the oat milk options. Breakfast is covered too, with toasties made fresh and staff happy to tweak them. We've also heard of burgers that came out hot and fresh, even after dark. Eat in, take away, or get your order delivered. In-store pick-up is available as well. There's a little park next door if you'd rather take your pie outside, and the staff are friendly, with a reputation for nothing being too much trouble.

One visitor was disappointed with a sausage roll and thought the prices were steep for the country, and another found a pie only lukewarm. On a day when the espresso machine was playing up, one couple missed out on their coffee. Visitors tend to speak warmly of the place.

Parking is easy, with free street parking and a free car park, and there's wheelchair-accessible parking and entry. Cards and tap-to-pay are accepted. The bakery keeps long opening hours, so it suits an early start or a late arrival, but check the hours before you plan around it. If you're heading through Dirranbandi and want a proper pie, this is a good place to pull over.
