Baked On Red Hill

Baked On Red Hill is a suburban bakery in Woree, Queensland, and people are happy to make the drive for it. We've heard of folks coming from the city and from the beaches, and one local who makes a regular trip from the coast just to stock up on sausage rolls.

Bread is a big part of the draw. There's a large range of sourdough, and one visitor who drove across town said the bread alone made the trip worthwhile. Pies get plenty of love too, along with sausage rolls (including gluten free ones) and a cabinet of savoury and sweet things that gives you plenty to choose from if you turn up hungry.

The pastry side is where a lot of the chatter lands. Croissants come up often, and one local called the almond version the best in Cairns, possibly the best anywhere. Others rave about the lemon meringue tart, the cruffins and the chocolate entremet. They do gluten free croissants and danishes as well, though opinion on those is a little mixed. They also make custom cakes and sweet boxes, which one regular ordered several of to take along to client visits, praising how easy the ordering was and how nicely it was all presented.

Coffee is made in house, and there's undercover seating outside if you'd like to sit down with a pie or a pastry. Breakfast and takeaway are on offer, and they deliver too. Parking is free and the entrance is wheelchair accessible, and you can pay by card or tap.

Locals describe the team as friendly, and one visitor noticed how calmly and kindly staff helped each other at the counter. That said, we've heard the odd grumble about service on a busy morning, so a little patience goes a long way. If you're after something that isn't on the shelf, such as uncooked sausage rolls for the freezer, it pays to ask ahead.

The selection thins out later in the day, so earlier is better for the full range. Check the hours before you head in, as they aren't open every day of the week.
