Bradley's Bakery

If you're after an old-school bakery in Christie Downs, Bradley's Bakery is one worth visiting. It's a family-owned business that has been serving the southern Adelaide region since 1997, and the handmade approach shows. Pies, pasties, sausage rolls, donuts, sweet buns, eclairs, slices, fresh cream products, bread and cakes are baked daily, without added preservatives.

The pies are what a local heads in for. We hear they come stuffed full, and the pasties and sausage rolls get just as much praise. One local called the sausage rolls "to die for", and locals reckon highly of the pasties. There's a chilli cheese kransky for something a bit different, and a big breakfast pie with hash brown on top for an early start.

Then there are the donuts, which come in generous sizes. A visitor talked about the vanilla slice donut in particular, big enough to share or save half for the next day, and the chocolate donuts have their fans too. One regular says they've been ruined for donuts from anywhere else. Come with an appetite. The chocolate eclair gets a mention as well, with one visitor finding it stood out among eclairs they'd had.

There's a café side too, with coffee made from Aroma Fresh beans, milkshakes and iced drinks, so it works for a sit-down as well as takeaway. Seating is spacious, and the car park is free, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance and car park. Custom cake orders are available if you've got an occasion coming up. They take cards and mobile payments.

Locals describe the staff as friendly, even on busy days when things get hectic, and the portions are generous enough that the value is hard to fault. The shopfront is plain and unfussy, and one or two people found some of the sweet things a bit rich for their taste. It's open seven days, which suits this part of the south, though it's worth checking the hours before you head in.
