The Little Red Grape Co.

If you're passing through Sevenhill on the way to or from Clare, The Little Red Grape Co. is the kind of bakery that tends to make people glad they pulled over. It's a short drive from Clare, there's free parking out the front, and the setting is homey, with a patio where you can sit with a coffee and listen to the birds.

Pies are what locals keep coming back to. The chicken satay pie gets plenty of love, and we've heard good things about the egg's benedict pie, the chunky steak Diane and the lamb shank pie too. Visitors rave about the flaky pastry and generous fillings, and the vegetarian pasties get a special mention from people who say they don't skimp on what's inside. Sausage rolls are another favourite, and everything comes out fresh from the oven.

Beyond the pies, there's a good spread of sweet and savoury pastries. One local swears the vanilla slice is among the best they've had, with fresh cream rather than the mock stuff. Sourdough is on the shelves too, and the rosemary and olive loaf is a good pick (the staff will happily slice it for you). Gluten-free and vegan options are available, and custom cake orders are taken. For a sit-down meal there's breakfast, soup with toasted ciabatta, and coffee, and they offer takeaway and delivery as well as dining in. Cyclists on the Riesling Trail have been known to stop for carrot cake and an iced mocha.

The staff are friendly and helpful, and people regularly say they were made to feel welcome. There's a loyalty card too, so regulars work toward a free item. Opinion on the coffee and prices is a little mixed, with the odd grumble that a few things come in on the dearer side, though most feel the portions and quality make up for it.

Access is good, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilet and car park, and they take cards and mobile payments. Hours run through the day into the mid-afternoon, so check before you head in if you're timing a lunch stop.
