Nagambie Bakery

Passing through on the way to the Goulburn Valley, some travellers pull up at Nagambie Bakery, and it's a bakery in Nagambie that locals clearly rate as well. It's the sort of country bakery where the tradies are in early, and the counter stays busy through the day.

Pies are the main drawcard. Locals talk up the steak and mushroom, with a flavourful filling and good pastry, and the range runs on to pasties and sausage rolls that come out fresh. One person found a chicken and corn version underwhelming and another was a little let down by a cheese kransky roll, so it pays to start with the classics. Alongside the pies, you'll find rolls and sandwiches made to order, including Vietnamese pork rolls that several people rave about as some of the best they've had. The vanilla slice gets a wrap too, and one family with three kids declared it a winner on the first bite.

There's a good run of country-style cakes, banana bread and fresh-cream apple turnovers if you're after something sweet, and they take custom cake orders. The bread gets its own fans, with the wholemeal singled out. Coffee is part of the picture as well, and the iced coffee with ice cream earned a particular thumbs up from one older visitor who went back for a second turnover later the same day.

Breakfast works well here. One family on holiday ate here every morning and found the egg and bacon sandwiches, made with fresh bread, easy to come back to, with orders arriving without much of a wait. Staff are friendly and helpful, and value comes up regularly, though one local reckons a few items are pricey for what they are.

You can sit in with a coffee, grab a table on the footpath or beside the bakery, or take everything away. There's free parking nearby, including accessible spots, and they take cards and mobile payments. Check the hours before you head in, as they vary a little across the week.
